About the WORKSHOP
Portfolio Reviews remain one of the best ways to get your work in front of photography professionals who can help advance your career. These events are an important investment in your image-making practice. To get the most out of these experiences, you have to be prepared. This workshop is designed to help all levels of photographers prepare for these events.
In this one-day intensive workshop, we will:
Discuss what portfolio reviews are, their format and expectations.
Compare and contrast different portfolio review events: local, national, and international.
Identify your goals for the review – what do you want to get out of it?
Learn how to research and select reviewers based on your work and review goals.
Examine how to prepare, edit, and sequence the best portfolio(s).
Prepare an artist’s statement and an “Elevator Pitch”.
Look at promotional “leave behind” materials.
Consider the best strategies for following up after the review.
Develop individual plans for participants to use after this workshop.
Time will be set aside at the end of the workshop for a portfolio walk through, during which participants will lay out their prints for all to see. As a group, we will give constructive feedback and help one another determine what further steps must be taken in order to be fully prepared for a portfolio review event.
All levels of photographers are encouraged to attend. Please bring no more than 30 prints, no bigger than 11x14 inches, from no more than 2-3 bodies of work. If you already have an artist’s statement (or very rough draft), book mock-ups, postcards, or business cards, please bring those materials as well, but they are not required.
