ABOUT WORKSHOP:

Portfolio Reviews remain one of the best ways to get your work in front of photography professionals who can help advance your career.  These events are an important investment in your image-making practice.  To get the most out of these experiences, you have to be prepared.  This workshop is designed to help all levels of photographers prepare for these events, and especially for the upcoming PhotoAlliance Portfolio Review, more information HERE.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE:

This is a two-day, online, intensive workshop, held on consecutive Saturdays. All levels of photographers are encouraged to attend.

During the first session (Saturday, January 22nd, 2022) , we will:

  • Discuss what portfolio reviews are, their format and expectations.

  • Compare and contrast different portfolio review events:  local, national, and international; online and in-person.

  • Identify goals for the review – what do you want to get out of it?

  • Learn how to research and select reviewers based on your work and goals.

  • Examine how to prepare, edit, and sequence the best portfolio(s).

  • Review how to write an artist’s statement and an “Elevator Pitch”.

  • Look at promotional “leave behind” materials.

  • Consider the best strategies for following up after the review.

  • Develop individual plans for participants to use after this workshop.

During the second session (Saturday, January 29th, 2022), we will:

  • View and critique your portfolio digitally via screen sharing.

  • Portfolios should consist of 15-20 images, an artist's statement (or very rough draft), and any promotional materials you have drafted, ready or have used in the past (postcards, business cards, etc).

  • Further details will be given during the first session in order to prepare portfolios for the second session.
